Lynn Wyman Townsend

Obituary

WINDSOR, Calif. - Lynn Wyman Townsend, former city controller for Billings, passed away July 5, 2007, in Windsor, at the age of 93.
He had a long and interesting life - from picking potatoes as a young man during the Depression to the age of e-mail and big screens. He served in the Navy in Hawaii during the Second World War. Born in 1913, he was a teacher and school administrator in both Minnesota and Montana, as well as holding positions in Billings city government in the 1950s and 1960s.
He was preceded in death by his wonderful wife, Bernice; sister Elvira; and brother Clyde. He is survived by sons, Bruce and Lon, and daughter Sharon and their families, including seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, as well as brother Byron and sister Myrle.
He remained alert and active until shortly before his passing - watching sports on TV, reading western novels, playing Hand and Foot with adult family members and Legos with the kids. He enjoyed corresponding by e-mail and playing Internet bridge with people around the world.
Anyone wishing to share memories of Lynn is welcome to contact his family at PO Box 11592, Santa Rosa, CA 95406.

This obituary was originally published in the Billings Gazette.

Not sure what to say?

I just learned about Uncle Lynn's passing and want to express my sympathy. It has been years since I last saw him and his family, but I do remember all the great times we had visiting at Buffalo Lake. My thoughts are with you. Kerry (Byron's daughter) and family
