Lynn Williams Sr. Obituary

Lynn Eric Williams Passed peacefully at home in his sleep during the early hours of August 25, 2023. He was born on July 24, 1941 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He is survived by his children: Daughter Katherine Lynne Williams and husband Thad Devier, his eldest son Lynn "Eric" Williams Jr. and wife, Erika Williams, and his youngest son, Michael Wren Williams. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Joshua Devier, Elise Devier, Hampton Williams, Julia Williams and Lynn "Eric" Williams III. Lynn loved his family and his friends. Those who knew him would describe him as loyal, genuine and kind-hearted. He could often be found out among those same friends, celebrating the good times, or showing his support during the bad. He took special care to remember the many names and faces he encountered over the years. Lynn loved his city and watched it grow up all around him. Baton Rouge had a special place in his heart and he was proud to have been a part of its history; from a child delivering papers to Governor Earl Long all the way up to his time at the Parish Attorney's Office and thereafter. An LSU fan til the end, he especially looked forward to football season each fall. He was a licensed member of the bar association for over 50 years. Starting his private practice in 1968 after attaining his jurist doctorate from Loyola Law School of New Orleans, Lynn went on to serve as the Louisiana State ABC Commissioner from 1976 to 1980 and then as the Parish Attorney for East Baton Rouge Parish from 1980 to 1993. After his time as the PA, he resumed his private practice for many years until retirement. Lynn is also survived by his brother, Kermit Wayne Williams, as well as several nieces, nephews and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Benjamin Andrew Williams, mother, Ethlynn Williams, and father, Kermit Williams. A visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Friday September 8 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until funeral at 12 noon. Burial will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. I remember over many decades when Lynn was a neighbor on Curtis Drive with my sister, a teacher, my brother-in-law, a law student, a lawyer, a city attorney, and a father to my niece and nephew. So sorry to hear of his battle with cancer and his death. He was always optimistic no matter what life threw in his way. He will be missed.
