Margaret Morrison KernMargaret Morrison Kern, 88, died on Friday, October 19, 2012, in Gordonsville, Virginia.Born in Philippi, West Virginia, Margaret was married to Franklin Kern until his passing in 1991.She was predeceased by her husband; her sister, Louise M. Winter; and her parents, Marshall J. Morrison and Tensie Smith Morrison. She is survived by her brother, Edward Morrison of Boulder, Colorado; her daughter, Dr. Margaret K. Champion of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; her son, Franklin W. Kern Jr. of Charleston, West Virginia; and her daughter, Edith K. Johnson of Zion Crossroads, Virginia. Margaret is survived by nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Margaret attended West Virginia University and earned her English degree at Morris Harvey College (now University of Charleston). A member of the Kappa Delta Pi and Sigma Tau Delta honorary fraternities, she was a teacher in Kanawha County schools and was the devoted wife of Franklin who was a respected attorney in Charleston.A wonderful cook, Margaret made simple dishes into special treats. Generous, quick-witted and well-read, she will be missed by all who knew her. She moved to Charlottesville in 2004 to be closer to her youngest grandchildren. When it became necessary, she moved to Gordon House in Gordonsville where she loved the staff and they loved her. Services will be held at St. Marks United Methodist Church in Charleston, West Virginia, 2 p.m. Saturday, November 17, 2012, with the Reverend Monty Brown presiding. Burial will be held at Spring Hill Cemetery.
