I first met Mel and Sheryl on the ferry going to Fire Island in about 1975. As a copywriter for the Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook Club I had just written about one of his and Sheryl's cookbooks. From that time on this wonderful couple were dear friends. We loved Mel's unwavering lefty views, his passion for film, food and, most of all, Sheryl. It was always so much fun to be with the two of them, whether eating together at their Village finds or perusing Sheryl's gorgeous Fire Island...
