Not sure what to say?

Dear McKenna family,

I went to high school with Joe, but it was not until years later, when I came across a picture of Mary from the Minneapolis Tribune in my father's scrapbook with the caption, "Wife of one of my favorite patients," did I learn that our father's knew each other. My father, who died nearly 25 years ago, clearly adored and admired Peter. You all have my deepest sympathy for the loss of another great man.

Dear Mary and all the McKenna family,
My parents, Ken and Carol Carlson, took me and my brothers, Mark and Grant, on a visit to your house probably back in the late '50s. We had never seen a person with war injuries before. My dad told us not to worry--Pete was a great guy! And then we were much reassured by Pete's warm welcome and entertaining stories. I've always remembered that happy afternoon, and also recall many fond memories my mom had of you and your nursing days...

Mary, Libby and Fred, Margaret McKenna Herrmann, John and Veronika, Mary Catherine and John, Joe, Peter, Nellie and Mark, and Paul and Maggie. I am so very sad to hear of Pete's death. I have great memories of of Pete and your family. Going to the MN Twin's game with Pete and some of kids. Days at the lake. Just going down Oak Grove Blvd seeing Pete and a family member taking a walk. Dad always stopped and talked to Pete. Remembering So many Sunday Mornings seeing Mary and Pete at mass...

I am honored to have known Pete McKenna -- his wit, charm and wonderful talents at spitting watermelon seeds every Fourth of July at the family picnic. (The reigning champion, no less.) My sympathies to all the McKennas. I'm so sorry I missed the wake and funeral. (There was a bit of a mix-up at our end, so I hadn't realized they were taking place on Friday and Saturday until it was too late.)

To Mary & the entire McKenna family,
I am so very sorry for your loss. I worked with Pete at the VA for many years in the benefits area. He was such an inspiration to all of us because of his perseverence and dedication. He was also a true war hero. May he rest in peace.

Dear Mary,It was such an honor getting to know Peter and You at Golden Living! The short time that I cared for Peter, I could tell that He and you were very special, very close and loving. Many a night, he would sit by my med cart following supper, and we would visit.I could tell that he had a very loving family, as he would speak about all of you and occasionally sing for me! I will miss YOU all very much and I know he will be looking over us. Love, marie Wallner r.n.
