“Mr. Helland, for 2 yrs after WWII, was a pillar for Bagley H.S.('46-'48) - rebuilding athletics & teaching, all with dignity, hard work & enthusiasm. As well put by a classmate, unknowingly a "man of great stature" was in our midst. Sympathies to his wife & son from the Class of '48.
“Phil was my father's cousin, and my best pen friend in the USA. I knew him as a good and wise man.
My deepest sympathies to Ruth and Mike.
“Mr. Helland was my favorite teacher..the year was 1948
I remember him well....
He was truly a gift to Minnesotas educational system
“Phil was a magnificent man whose notable accomplishments belied his ability to connect with people on a very personal level. He lived a noble life, and my deepest sympathies to his family.
