New Comer Cremations & Funerals - SyracuseRalph G. Cleveland, 69, of Central Square passed away peacefully after an almost 3 year battle with cancer. He was strong and fought hard for every moment of life he lived. He was surrounded by people that loved him and as we held his hand as he slipped away, even moments before death, he smiled for us. Ralph was born to Paul Marsh Cleveland and Keiko Shimada, December 29, 1955, in Nyack New York. He was the second oldest of 10 children. He grew up in Constantia, New York and attended various schools in the area. His employment ranged from, running video stores in his early years, to delivering nuclear medicine, then, for close to 20 years, he worked in telecommunication and fiber optic installation. He was the father to three children from his previous marriage (Marion), two sons, Gabriel (Casandra) Cleveland, Jesse (Jazzmyn) Cleveland and daughter, Genesis (Ian) Grinnals. He had a stepson, Jody (Melanie) Vollmer, of his current wife, Mary Wilkinson.
Ralph was loved by many people for his gentle kindness that he got from his mom and his genuine laugh that seemed to make the whole world smile with him. He was always kind to strangers (unless he was driving) and could make a friend anywhere he went. Ralph was a music lover, and an artist. He had a creative mind and a loving heart that always found the good in people. He was an avid musician and played guitar, bass and piano and he was in many bands. He wrote beautiful music, often times with his best friend of more than 55 years, Don Sawyer. Don and Ralph had a special chemistry in music that is so special and so rare. Their music is cherished by many. Music was his passion and he spread his love of music to his children and grandchildren.
Ralph is survived by his Children, 5 Grand Children, 2 Sisters, 7 Brothers, many Nieces and Nephews and countless friends that were all like family to him. Ralph is also survived by “his Mary” of 20 years, his “other half.” She stood by him in life and in death. She comforted Ralph like no other and shared her love with him in his final moments. No words can express the gratitude we all have for the love and comfort you showed Ralph. Thank you Mary.
A Celebration of Life will be held on, December 13th 2025 from 2-8PM at the Brewerton Fire Dept, 9625 Brewerton Rd, Brewerton NY 13029. All are welcome to come, share a story of Ralph and play some music.
In lieu of flowers, please do something kind for a stranger and put a smile into this world.
