Roseann Cynthia Hoidas (née Coglan), 76, of Joliet, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 24, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born to George and Adeline Coglan, Roseann lived a life devoted to faith, family, and service to others. She proudly worked as a secretary for the Village of Glendale Heights for over 20 years, where she was known for her dedication and warm smile. She also volunteered as a religious education teacher at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Joliet, generously sharing her time and faith with others.
Roseann had a creative spirit and a passion for crafting. She enjoyed sewing and creating beautiful ceramic pieces over the years, always gifting her handmade treasures to those she loved. In her younger days, she enjoyed camping adventures and making memories with family and friends. She had a heart of gold and was known for her kindness—she would truly give the shirt off her back to help someone in need. However, her greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
Roseann also had a deep love for her animals, who brought her comfort and companionship. She leaves behind her beloved dogs Honeybee, Pixie, Charlie, Elmer, and Vinny, and her cherished cats Chubs, Mr. Kitty, Oscar, and Smudge.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving children: Leeann (Mike) Syslo, Thomas McCollum Jr., and Timothy (Carol) McCollum, Bobbi Hoidas; grandchildren: William (Miranda) McCollum, Michael Selenis, Jacob (Kayla) McCollum, Hannah Martinez, Genny (Jessie) Powell, Max McCollum, and Maggie Syslo; great-grandchildren: Adelyn Selenis, Oliver Selenis, Anastasia Martinez, Claire Martinez, Everly Powell, Cooper Powell, Lainey McCollum, and Mac McCollum; and her siblings Gary (Barb) Allen and Jeffery Johnson.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Louis W. Hoidas; her parents, George and Adeline Coglan; her great-granddaughter, Nova Rose Powell; and her siblings Jennette Johnson and John Johnson.
A celebration of Roseann’s life will be held with a memorial visitation to be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet, IL. with a chapel services beginning at 6:30 pm. Cremation rites have been accorded.
