Sharman Elaine Smith

Born September 3, 1952 in Lima, Ohio
Died August 5, 2025 in Everett Washington

The third child born to Marvin Smith and Dorothy Croft, Sharman was always active, participating in 4H, working as a trail guide, and enjoying camping and biking trips. She graduated from Shawnee High School in Lima, Ohio in 1970 and later received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Home Economics at Purdue University where she began to teach. She lived and worked in northern California, in Gallatin Gateway and Bozeman, Montana, and in the Seattle area and in Tacoma, Washington. She settled in Snohomish where she bought a home with a beautiful view which she appreciated every day, spending her retired life improving that home, gardening, enjoying music, and traveling.

Sharman loved to learn about other cultures and organized and led group trips across the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia and South America. A supporter of Rick Steves in his early days, she also believed in the mission of Hosteling International to give people of all ages the ability to see and experience the world.

Music was her deep passion. Sharman supported and produced concerts for a variety of independent musicians. She wrote and arranged music and enjoyed playing fiddle and autoharp. Active in the folk and Celtic arts and music scene, she also studied the Scottish-Gaelic language and participated in contradance.

Sharman was very involved in the arts and supported museums, live performance, and theatre, including Village Theater in Everett and Issaquah. She also loved to create her own art through design, textiles, and glass. A supporter of many organizations and foundations, she strived to make the world a better and more joyful place.

Sharman was an incredibly talented, creative, and passionate individual who touched many lives and made the world a better place. She was excited to share joy in life and loved spending time with her many wonderful and caring friends and members of her family.

After over two years battling pancreatic cancer, Sharman is at peace to explore and celebrate the joy we create in our lives. She is survived by her brother Dennis (Lisa) Smith, her brother Will (Linda Fuller) Smith, her nieces Sharra and Shayna Fullersmith, and her cat Miss Lily.

A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
