Not sure what to say?

My brother and I both remember Tom as a gentle sweet person who was always kind to us and took time for us when we were kids. I am sure his gentle soul is at peace and memories of him will bring smiles and good thoughts to all who knew him. So sorry for his passing.

We've missed the Tom we knew
and treasure the memories we have.
a talented guy with warm smile
who brightened Alhambra Hi and UC.
-- teammate & friend Walt Viglienzone

Tom was a wonderful lyric poet and published one book, Emptiness That Plays So Rough (Broken Shadow Publications, Oakland, 1995). I got to know Tom, again, through the Berkeley/Oakland poetry scene, in which I also actively participate. He wrote in my copy of his book: "It seems my struggles with psychosis gave me a temporary edge on imagery and the like." I am saddened by the death of this talented man and poet, who was friend to many of us at Alhambra High and later in our lives.

Two years behind us at Alhambra, Tom was a sensational guy of enormous energy, talent, kindness, and joy. He will be remembered fondly by many family members, teammates, and friends near and far. May he and his family be blessed now and always

May your spirit Tom move on in peace.

Although we didn't see each other much after high school, he was one of my best friends in 5th grade and I have thought of him often and was so sorry when his mental health struggles began. I will treasure his book of poems and the note he wrote inside. If Gene Shimmel reads this, I really want that picture now. We will all remember Tom at our 50th high school reunion on the 13th. Rest in peace Tom.
