Winfield Hughes Baden Winfield Hughes Baden, 92, of Palmyra, died on Monday, May 6, 2013, at the University of Virginia Medical Center. He was born on April 7, 1921, in Washington, D.C., a son of the late Harry Winfield and Ruth Adelaide (Heinard) Baden. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Mary (Marks) Baden; two sisters, Ruth Heinard Baden and Edna Jane Baden; and a daughter, Susan Lee Baden. Mr. Baden served in the United States Army in Europe during World War II. He retired as a Professional Firefighter with the Washington, D.C. Fire Department after 24 years of service and then enjoyed farming for over 35 years. He also enjoyed golf and traveling. Survivors include three children, Robert Winfield Baden and his wife, Carol, John Maurice Baden and his wife, Vickie, and Richard Hughes Baden, all of Palmyra; 14 grandchildren, Eugene Baden, Shawn Baden, Paul Baden, Terry Jo Crosser, Jenny McCoy, Jeffrey McCoy, Brandon Baden, Shannon Ratcliffe, Kelly Rosner, John Corey Baden, Jeremy Baden, Richard James, Laura James, and Tammy Mason; and 29 great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Ft. Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood, Maryland. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at Thacker Brothers Lake Monticello Funeral Home.
