THOMPSON, David Rae April 3, 1947 - October 12, 2013 . It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of David in Nanaimo on Saturday, October 12th, 2013. David was a devoted and loving husband to Sandra (nee Millikin) and proud father of Adam (Jaymie), Jason (Lisa), and Derek, who passed away in 2010. David was extremely proud of all his grandchildren, sharing many happy, loving times with Jesse, Brody, Charli, and Cole. David was born to Claude and Mable Thompson of Metcalfe, Ontario. He was the beloved brother of Donna (Bill), Ruth (Ken), Bruce (Dianna), Brent (Kim), and Claudia (Robert). David was loved by his extended Millikin family, Lou (Ron), Hugh (Sara), and Rhonda (Peter). He will also be remembered by many nieces, nephews, and friends in Ontario and British Columbia. David enjoyed a wonderful career starting with Ontario Hydro in 1971, then North Bay Hydro, and finally Nepean Hydro, where he retired as Manager of Operational Distribution in 2002. He and Sandra left Ontario and retired to Vancouver Island, where David began his own company, Paint By Numbers Services. He enjoyed travelling, camping, hiking, kayaking, and always found a job or task to do wherever or whoever he was visiting. David will always be remembered for being a loving husband, for his bigger-than-life smile, and for having a generous heart, always considering the needs of others before his own. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 4235 Departure Bay Rd, Nanaimo, BC. Many thanks to the staff at NRGH, Drs. King, Kingston, Lang, Denegri, for the support received from doctors in Vancouver and Victoria, and his family doctor, Dr. Stephanie Steel. Your efforts enabled David to enjoy these last precious days. Donations may be made in memory of David to the Nanaimo St. Andrews Presbyterian Church Outreach and Mission.
