Church, Kenneth Raymond (Ken), 64 years of age, passed away June 9th, 2013, in Nanaimo.
Ken was born in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, on Feb. 28,1949.
Ken is predeceased by his parents Gladys & Raymond Church.
Ken is survived by his wife Judie (nee Brausen), sons Derek & Sam (Thea), sisters Linda and Diane (Fernando), in-laws Darlyne & Robert Griffiths, grandchildren Cole, Connor & Kelsea, many nephews & nieces, and 12 tiny paws.
Ken was the child of an army family, having lived in many parts of Eastern Canada before settling in Calgary when he was a teenager. He met the love of his life Judie and they were married in June of 1970, then moved to Nanaimo in 1983. Ken and Judie owned and operated the Country Club Barber Shop from 1979-2007 and they opened Hair Mates Barber's and Stylists in 2000- present.
Ken was a man of character who spoke few words but when he did he made those words count. He never said he could do more than he could and he always finished what he said he would do. Ken was a hard worker who never spoke ill of anyone, he enjoyed fly fishing, model railroading and wood working. His preferred social events were family gatherings, watching his grandson's play hockey, listening to his granddaughter exercise her many musical talents and loved playing with his dogs.
Ken was laid to rest Sunday, June 16th, 2013 surrounded by his family. We wish to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Colin Walker, VIHA, and the Palliative Care Unit at NRGH, for their extraordinary care during this emotional and difficult time. We would also like to thank our staff, family, and friends for all their "well wishes" and "support".
Ken will be
