Eleanor Mae Blott died peacefully on June 13, 2013. Eleanor was the beloved wife of the late Dr. Gordon Blott; mother of Stewart, Douglas, and Keith; mother-in-law to Anne, Barbara, and Jennifer; grandmother to Carli-Jean and Erik Loptson, Jeffrey and Sarah, Peri and Dan Bishop, George, Robert, Darryl, and Riley; and great grandmother to Kevin, Alexis, Ethan, Taya, Jayme, Tristin, Porter Mae,and Koen.
Eleanor was born 22 May 1917 in Weyburn, Saskatchewan, daughter of George and Myrtle Stewart, sister to Eileen and Keith. The family moved to Edmonton, Alberta where, after graduation, Eleanor worked at the Edmonton Journal. She met Gordon in the Presbyterian Young People's group and he proposed the next time they saw each other. Six months later they were engaged, and they married when Gordon completed his medical training. Gordon served overseas with the Canadian army, and on his return they settled in Nanaimo where they raised their family, made many good friends, and were active members of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. Eleanor loved her family, her friends, her pets, and her garden, all beautiful things. She played a great game of bridge and we will always remember her constant good humour and her warm, generous laughter.
A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced. Eleanor's family wish to thank staff and volunteers for their skillful and compassionate care for our mother in her time at Eagle Park Health Care Facility in Qualicum Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Eagle Park Health Auxiliary would be appreciated.
