Mary M. Glenn Obituary
Glenn, Mary M. (née Walsh) Recognized and admired Doctor and Professor of Nursing, wife, mother, grandmother and friend of many, passed away at the age 76 on January 26, 2014 at Edward Hospital, Naperville, IL. Forever, she will be the cherished wife of Edward Morrissey, wedded for 14 years and of the late Robert Glenn, wedded in 1960 and married for 39 years; treasured mother of Molly Glenn (Babacar Mbengue), Patrick (Carrie) Glenn, and Christopher Glenn; and loving and devoted grandma (or grand-mère) of Tristan and Colin Glenn, Alioune and Fatou Mary Mbengue. She was born and raised in Peoria, IL, daughter of Joanna Marie and Joseph Walsh, and was a long-time resident and active community member of Naperville since moving there in 1972. She graduated from Saint Ambrose College in Davenport, IA with a Bachelors of Science in Nursing in 1959 and started her career in nursing. Her studies continued with the completion of a Master of Science in Nursing from University of Illinois in 1966. Finally, after years of hard work and simultaneously managing a career, motherhood and her pursuit of a higher education, she proudly completed her Doctorate of Philosophy from University of Illinois in 1987. Having lost her mother at the early age of three, Mary knew the value and preciousness of family and of being a mother. She persevered through prayer and love and was surrounded by a strong Irish Catholic community in her upbringing. She was an active, incredibly giving and affectionate mother, grandmother, wife and friend. Her passions were many including her many causes where she strived for equality and justness in environmental issues, animal rights, women's rights, international poverty, community outreach, the nursing industry and most profoundly for advancements in the field of special education. Teaching was her passion, and she educated many capable and confident nurses who often sought her out to thank her for her expertise, compassion and dedication as a professor. One of Mary's great sources of happiness was traveling. Her heart and soul glowed the many times she was in Ireland and once in Italy. She cherished friendship and adored all of her long-time friends from school, nursing, the community and the church. She was an active and enduring member of St. Rafael's Catholic Church, and a woman of powerful prayer. We will miss you deeply but know that the strength you have passed on will be with us always. We are blessed to have known you and been loved by you. In lieu of flowers, memorials to: Mary M. Glenn Trust (established for the long-term well-being of Christopher Glenn), c/o Edward Jones, 1112 S. Washington St., Suite 215, Naperville, IL 60540 (#630-428-1164).
