Burrows Jr., Oliver Knox Was born on June 16, 1929 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 in Naperville after a strongly fought battle with cancer. He was a resident of Naperville for 27 years, retiring from Sears, Roebuck and Company in 1990, following a 32 year career working in Chicago and St. Davids, Pennsylvania. Oliver graduated from York High School and from Harvard University. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War, where he met his wife Ellen. Oliver was a 20 year member of the Naperville Noon Lions and most proud to provide service to the community as the club's top raffle ticket salesperson. He was active in the Grace United Methodist Church vacation bible school program, speaking with the children about how greatly Jesus loves each one of them. As a member of the Naperville Community Gardeners, Oliver was best known for his dahlias and cannas. He also felt privileged to support the college education aspirations of local students as a member of the Harvard Club of Chicago where he served for many years a local interviewer of student applicants to the university. Oliver is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ellen; his son, Oliver III; his daughter, Elizabeth; four grandchildren, and one great-grandson. Memorial Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 28 from 4 pm to 7 pm at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Homes & Crematory, 516 S. Washington Street, Naperville. Memorial Service will be on Monday, July 29 at 11:00 am at Grace United Methodist Church, 300 East Gartner Road, Naperville, with Memorial Visitation prior to the service from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
