Robert "Robin" Mair Obituary
Mair, Robert "Robin" 80, a 47 year resident of Naperville, formerly of Cranford, NJ passed away suddenly, April 20, 2014. Born in Scotland May 24, 1933, he came to the U.S. at age two with his family. He became a U.S. citizen prior to joining the army where he served with the Finance Corps in Germany. He graduated from the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania and later earned an MBA from Lewis University. In October 1961, he married Anne Gabel. They and their two young children relocated to Naperville where Robin was Materials Manager with Distillers Company LTD in Plainfield. They rounded out their family by adding two more sons. He is survived by wife, Anne; children, Heather, Christopher, Rob (wife Christine), Scott; granddaughter, Emily; brother, David and family. Beloved by everyone for his engaging intellect and wry humor. Robin loved the game of golf and, in retirement, was a starter at Springbrook Golf Course. He was a passionate fly-fisherman and, with his family, made many trips to Michigan's Au Sable River where, per his request, his ashes will be spread this summer. Robin found pleasure in making golf clubs and cane fishing rods for family and friends as well as Scottish shortbread for all. He was truly unique: well read, a story-teller, trivia fact expert, WWII arm chair historian, quoter of Scottish poet Robert Burns, conversationalist on any given subject, cat-lover, bird-watcher, and most of all, a generous and devoted husband, father, granddad and friend. Our Robin is sorely missed. Visitation: Thursday, April 24, 4:00p.m. - 8:00p.m. at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home (516 S. Washington St., Naperville). Service: Friday, April 25, 10:30a.m. at Knox Presbyterian Church (1105 Catalpa Ln., Naperville). Interment private. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. For info call 630-355-0264.
