Calvin L. Smith Naples, FL
Calvin L. Smith, 93, of Edina, MN, passed away May 2, 2014 in Naples, FL.
Preceded in death by his loving wife, Lucille; and parents.
Calvin was a lifelong resident of Minnesota who served in the Navy in WW II and was a graduate of the University of Minnesota and received an MBA from the Harvard Graduate School of Business before joining Cargill a management trainee in 1946, and where he had a long, enjoyable, and highly successful 40 year career. Cal became Senior Vice President and Controller and was a Director of the company from 1975 until 1987.
His outside interests included the Harvard and U of M Alumni Associations, Boy Scouts of America, United Way, and the Minneapolis, YMCA General Board.
Cal's highest priority was his family, and he was an amazingly dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He always thought of others before himself. His selfless loving spirit lives on in the hearts of his family and friends.
He is survived by daughters, Claudia Smith and Nancy Wilbur; son, Steven (Wendy Wood) Smith; grandchildren, Mark (Shawna Ehlers) Wilbur and Eric (Gail) Wilbur, and Karl Wilbur (Sheri) and Michael Stolp-Smith and Christopher Stolp-Smith; five great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Special recognition and appreciation is extended to Dr. Gregory Lehman, Nicole Rennie and Melissa Satterwall of Senior Abilities Unlimited, Cherie Augspurger, Pat Mulligan and all the staff at Allied Professionals.
Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 12th at Colonial Church of Edina, 6200 Colonia Way, Edina, MN 55436; with reception to follow.
Memorials preferred to the Southdale YMCA, 7355 York Avenue South, Edina, MN 55435; Colonial Church of Edina, 6200 Colonia Way, Edina, MN 55436; Naples United Church of Christ, 5200 Crayton Road, Naples, FL 34103; or the donor's favorite charity in honor of Calvin L. Smith.
