Albert La Barbera Indianapolis, IN
Albert La Barbera, son of Samuel and Josephine La Barbera, born March 20, 1930 in Cuba, New York died Saturday June 19, 2013.
Albert was a graduate of Cuba Central School, St. Bonaventure University, and received an MBA from Indiana University. He received a regular Army commission in 1952, earned through the ROTC program. On July 18, 1953 he married Nancy Ann Whelan at St. Leo's Church in Ridgway, Pennsylvania. In the Army for 24 years, he served in various Field Artillery and Finance Corps positions in the United States, Germany, Turkey and Vietnam. He completed his active duty as a Colonel and Director of Centralized Pay Operations, Fort Benjamin Harrison, a post he held from 1974 until his retirement in 1976. His Military awards include two Legions of Merit, two Meritorious Service Medals, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal with four Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation and the Republic of Vietnam Civic Honor Medal Unit Citation. In August 2002 he was named a Distinguished Member of the Finance Regiment. In March 2006 he was inducted into the Saint Bonaventure University ROTC Hall of Fame. Actively engaged in a variety of community service projects since his retirement, he was President of the Lawrence Indiana Exchange Club 1993 to 1994 and was named Lawrence Exchangite of the year 2005.
Albert was predeceased by Nancy, his wife for 54 years; his parents; and brother, Patrick.
He is survived by sons, Stephen (Leigh) and Jack (Tonya); his daughters, Kay (Joseph) Alexander and Jean (Robert) Di Domenico; his brothers, Joseph and Samuel (Jean), sister, Mary Stout; 13 grandchildren; and two step grandchildren. He was a loving father, grandfather and friend.
Visitation will be held at Flanner and BuchananLawrence, 5215 N., Shadeland Avenue, Indianapolis, IN. on Thursday, January 24, 2013 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Mass of Celebration will be held on Friday, January 25, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. from Holy Spirit Parish at Geist, 10350 Glaser Way, Fishers, IN.
Entombment will be in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee, 38101-0187.

Al was a hoot to work with! He had a super energetic nature, and a fantastic disposition. Can't wait to find out what he's been doing in Heaven.
