Dr. Andre Louis Laz Naples, FL

Dr. Andre Louis Laz, 74, passed away peacefully following a brief, courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his family.

Andre was born on Octo ber 17, 1936 in New York City to Louis and Jeanne (LeFerrec) Laz.

Andre was a loving husband to Peggy; proud father of Andre Louis Laz Jr., Melanie Wolz (Michael), Jeannine Hall (Chris), and Vincent Laz (Barbara).

Beloved Pepere to Alexandra, Abby, Kate, Vinnie, David, Christopher, and Caroline.

He is also survived by his stepchildren, Leonard Joyce, and Jennifer Schmieding Bjelland; Leonard's children, Meredith, and Bill, and Jennifer's children, Michael, Matthew, and Scott.

Andre served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army during the 1960s.

Andre was an accomplished and devoted physician. He graduated from Fordham University and the New Jersey Medical School. He completed his residency at the Jersey City Medical Center, and a fellowship at Georgetown University. He practiced Internal Medicine in Oxen Hill, MD from 1969 to 1979. He began his practice at Naples Community Hospital in 1980 and served in several medical staff leadership positions and on the Credentials Committee in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He served as the president of the Naples Community Hospital Medical Staff from 1990 to 1992. He was the Florida governor of the American College of Physicians from 1998 to 1999. He also received a Laureate Award from the American College of Physicians in 1999. He was appointed a member of the Emeritus Staff in 2004 in recognition of his many years of service to the hospital and its medical staff.

Following his retirement in 2004, he continued his passion for medicine by volunteering at the Neighborhood Health Clinic and participating in a mission to Jamaica.

Andre had many interests, including tennis and travel. He traveled extensively throughout the world. One of his greatest passions in life was fine wine. He enjoyed sharing his vast collection and knowledge of wines with his family and friends. He was a member of the Naples chapter of the Burgundy wine society, Conferie de Taste Vin. He was the Heralt of the Naples chapter of the Commanderie de Bordeaux.

Andre was loved and cherished by his family, friends, and patients and will be sadly missed by all.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 17th (TOMORROW), at 3:00 p.m., at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 625 111th Avenue North, Naples, FL 34108.

Everyone is welcome to a celebration of his life at 4:30 p.m. in the Parish Life Center of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to either St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church Jamaican Outreach Ministry or the Neighborhood Health Clinic, 120 Goodlette Road, Naples, FL 34102.
