Barbara Nugent-Bitterman Obituary

Barbara J Nugent-Bitterman

Naples, FL

Barbara J. Nugent-Bitterman 61, of Naples, FL formerly of Lake Placid, NY left this world far too early on Monday, the 29th of May, 2017 to join those that had gone before her. Barbara was born January 4, 1956 in Lake Placid, NY the baby of four children. She spent the majority of her life in the Adirondacks and would always refer to it as home. A graduate of Lake Placid High School class of 1974, she continued her studies at Trinity College of Burlington, VT and SUNY Plattsburgh. Following college, she was a special education teacher at Lake Placid Central School and teacher of elementary education in the Keene Valley school district.

Barbara began her career as a flight attendant for Northwest Orient Airlines in 1981 where she met countless longtime friends and saw the world. She spent her career based in New York City before retiring in 2003 after her move to Naples, FL and after two decades of flying between New York and Asia. She had a love of travel and her airline career and continued her many travels around the world even after her retirement. In addition, she played a large role in the Wings Interline group which hosted regular luncheons for active and retired flight attendants in Southwest Florida.

No matter where her travels would take her she loved to spend her summer in the Adirondacks where she was a longtime supporter of the Lake Placid Horse Show. She enjoyed motorcycles, had a love of animals and a strong passion for life. There wasn't much Barbara wouldn't try at least once. Anybody that she came in contact with was touched by her glowing smile and outgoing and warm personality. In her years living in Naples she was an active member in her community hosting luncheons and parties, attending a number of charity events and playing golf.

She was preceded in death by her father Francis (Pete) Nugent in 1987. Barbara is survived by her mother, Catherine Nugent of Daytona Beach, FL; three siblings, Jerry Nugent (Pat) of the Villages, FL; Ann Morford (Ricky), Lake Placid, NY; Gregory Nugent (Clayton), Daytona Beach, FL, her nieces, Rachel, Miki, Charity and Jessica, several extended family members including aunts, uncles and cousins as well as many, many friends.

A Mass of Christian burial will take place at a later date determined by the family in Lake Placid, NY. Donations can be made to Elmbrook Veterinary Services c/o Dr. Sue Benway 46 Carey Road AuSable Forks, NY 12912 or the Tri-Lakes Humane Society PO Box 1111 Saranac Lake, NY 12983 in her name.

Although I'm a few days late on the 2nd anniversary of Barbara's Earthly passing into her next journey, I will always remember her. I met her as an employee of Collier's Reserve working the front gate in Security, where I still work, since 2006. She was always so friendly to me, addressing me by name, & asking how I was. In some moments, ashe would give me a deep hug that was so warm & needed. Her soul & face were equally beautiful, & her hugs & smile were so comforting. I consider myself very lucky to have met her. If I had more free time, I always wished to ask her to join me for a walk on the beach, maybe a cup of coffee out, but as an employee in her work community, I thought it would be intrusive. I regret not taking that chance & asking her anyway. To the Family & closest Friends of Barbara, though I've never met any of you, & now 2 years later after Barbara's tragic passing, please know I still think of you all. I truly believe that Barbara is in the arms of God, safe & loved. Her soul is free & she will never be hurt again. Peace, Light, & Love, Laurie Anderson.

Barbara was a part of our Useppa Family. Whenever she was there on a weekend she would worship the Lord with us at our nondenominational beach church. We came to love her as our Sister in Christ. She had a beautiful soul and generous, fun living spirit. While we are absolutely devastated by her death we believe we will be rejoined to her again one day with our Heavenly Father. Rest In Peace beautiful Barbara.

I CASUALLY KNEW BARBARA AS A SECURITY GUARD/ACCESS CONTROL, WORKING IN HER NAPLES COMMUNITY FOR OVER 10.5 YRS NOW. EVERY TIME SHE CAME THROUGH THE GATE, SHE HAD A WARM SMILE, & GREETED ME BY NAME. SHE ONCE GAVE ME A DEEP HUG, & IT WAS SINCERE & WARM & BEAUTIFUL, AS SHE WAS. I LEARNED THAT SHE LOVED ANIMALS & HELPED THEM, & THAT SHE HELPED PEOPLE ALSO, & HAD MANY GOOD FRIENDS WHO ADORED HER. I AM SADDENED & SHOCKED OF HER PASSING, & MY DEEPEST RESPECTS & HEART GOES OUT TO HER FAMILY & CLOSEST FRIENDS WHO KNEW HER BEST. MAY HER SOUL BE FREE & IN PEACE & HAPPY IN GOD'S ARMS. WHAT A LOVELY LADY. YOU WERE LOVED BY MANY BARBARA, & ALWAYS WILL BE. GRACE, LIGHT, PEACE, LOVE & GRATITUDE, LAURIE ANDERSON.

I flew with Barbara out of JFK. Seeing her name on the Crew List was always a happy occasion. I knew
it'd be a fun trip because she was such a warm and
wonderful gal and a terrific crew member! I never thought one way or the other about Lake Placid, but she spoke so enthusiastically about her hometown that it made me want to visit. Barb will be missed by all of us in the airline community.

You were a beautiful person and left a lasting impression every time I met with you. Everywhere I go there is something that reminds me of a conversation we had. You were a true and honest person and very generous and caring. You have touched my life as well as my family's in a very deep way that we can never forget. You enjoyed life to its fullest and I have always looked up to you for your positive outlook and lust for life in all things. You were one of my first clients after moving to Naples and even traveled to Syracuse one summer just to have an appointment with me there! I appreciate everything about you. I pray for your family and pray for closure of a life that was taken way too soon. I will deeply miss you Barbara but know you are at a peaceful place. Thank you for sharing your kindness with me. ❤
