Joseph Francis Hogarth
Naples, FL
Joseph Francis Hogarth, of Naples, Florida, passed away on January 24, 2017 at the age of 75.
Joe was born to Joseph and Mary Rita Hogarth on August 3, 1941 in Philadelphia, PA. He spent his summers on Long Beach Island, NJ, where he discovered his love and passion for the sea.
Joe joined the Navy in 1961 and served as a Naval Photographic Interpreter in Istanbul, Turkey, and Keflavik, Iceland, earning commendations for exceptionally meritorious service.
After his discharge, Joe went on to college at the University of Maryland, where he majored in economics. However, Joe's great love for boats and the sea led him away from the corporate world. Instead he became a professional boat Captain and lived his life on or near the water. Over the years, Joe lived in and sailed the Florida Keys, the Caribbean, and the Great Lakes, and also spent time at sea in Panama, the Panama Canal and the Pacific Ocean.from South American to San Diego.
Joe leaves behind his partner and companion, Susan Mathews, who lost the love of her life; his former wife and good friend, Margaret Patrick; his cousin, John Nelson; long time beloved friends, David and Bette Riedel, the family and friends of Comprehensive Yacht Services, where his professional Captain's career began, and his many friends at the American Legion of Naples and the Caribbean Club of Key Largo. His passing has left a big hole in all of our hearts.
A private memorial service in celebration of Joe's life will take place at a later date in Key Largo, FL.

I was sorry to hear that Joey had passed away. I always wondered what had happened to him. I have pictures of us when we were small on LBI. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
