M. Ericksen Obituary

M. Catherine Ericksen

Naples, FL

M. Catherine "Kay" Ericksen passed away on January 2, 2016 in her home of many years, Naples, FL. Kay was born in 1923. Kay moved to Naples in the mid 1970's. She was an original owner at the Glades Golf and Country Club, and lived there for nearly 40 years, before relocating to The Carlisle, in Naples.

She enjoyed a long and varied career with the United States Department of State Foreign Service. She joined the service after WWII. She served in many foreign countries, at posts in the Middle East and Africa, including Laos and Iraq. She collected an array of pictures and cultural items memorable to those areas and shared wonderful stories of time abroad.

She had many friends from early days in Chicago, from assignments abroad and friends from the many years in the Naples area. She was also a good business woman, with great instincts, who was always willing to share her knowledge with those around her. Kay loved art, and her paintings covered nearly every square foot of her walls. Each piece of artwork she collected from overseas had a story, and a special meaning in her life. She enjoyed the symphony, celebrated birthdays, played bridge, bingo, and an occasional game of golf.

At her request, Kay's ashes have been scattered at sea in the Gulf of Mexico, as the final act of a life well-lived.
