Lt. Col. Robert S. Hartman Port Clinton, OH Naples, FL
Lt. Col. Robert S. 'Bob' Hartman, 78, of Port Clinton, OH and Naples, FL, passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky. He was born on February 18, 1936 to Robert Eugene and Alice (Worm) Hartman in Bloomsburg, PA.
Bob graduated from Bloomsburg High School in 1953 where he was a member of the National Honor Society. He graduated from Lehigh University (1958) in engineering and was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity and also was a member of the Tower Society. Bob also graduated from the U.S. Army Command & General Staff College in 1975. He also completed courses at Winebrenner and Trinity Lutheran Seminaries.
On June 21, 1958 he married Trudy Saltzer in Harrisburg, PA, and she passed away on August 1, 2002. He later married Olivia E. 'Liz' Sherck on April 16, 2004 on Marco Island, Naples, FL, and she survives.
Bob was Senior Purchasing Agent of raw materials for the carpet industry. He worked for Magee Carpet Co., Bloomsburg, PA and served on its board. Bob also worked at Ludlow Composites Corp., Fremont.
An engineer by degree and a buyer by profession, his late life 'Call' had been a series of wonderful experiences serving the Lord. He was a member of the ROA where he also served as Chaplain in Naples, FL, AIM (Assoc., In Ministry). Bob taught, preached and loved to sing the Gospel. He retired as an Associate In Ministry from Grace Lutheran Church, Fremont where he was an active member. He served on church council and assisted with many different activities over the years.
He developed and taught, at many community colleges, a class 'Korea The Forgotten War,' which was very special to him. Bob received his 50 year Masonic pin and took part in many Masonic rituals in the Toledo area.
Bob is survived by his wife; daughter, Mary Hartman of Green Springs; sister, Jane Clark Hartman Gareiss of Warwich, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Grace Lutheran Church, Fremont. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the church with Pastor Jody Rice officiating. Burial will be held at a later time in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, PA.
Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 705 West State Street, Fremont, OH 43420 in Bob's memory.
