Charles Wesley Stanford Naples FL
Charles Wesley 'Chuck' Stanford, 87, of Naples, FL, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 after a recent heart attack. Just this week he regaled the staff at ManorCare Naples with every hymn and patriotic song known to mankind. A lifelong Red Sox fan, Chuck was born in Somerville, MA, the son of the late Ronald and Ethel Stanford.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sara 'Sally' Stanford; his children, Ron Stanford of Naples, FL, Glen and Ann Stanford of Naples, FL and New Hampshire, Leslie and Tom Westover of Lincoln, NE; and predeceased by Steve Edwards of Naples, FL. Family was very important to Chuck, especially his dear siblings, the late Jessie and Wally Taylor, Walter and Anne Stanford of New Jersey, Herbert and the late Elaine Stanford of New Hampshire, Edith and the late Ron Stanford of Florida, and many wonderful nieces, and nephews.
After Somerville High, Chuck graduated from Northeastern University in 1952 and proudly served in the U.S. Navy as radarman second class aboard the USS Mannert L. Abele, DD733, which was sunk in action at Okinawa on April 12, 1945. For his dedicated service he was awarded two Battle Stars.
Chuck enjoyed an accomplished business career with Arkwright Boston Insurance Company (Factory Mutual) that started with his Northeastern Co-op job and ended 34 years later as Senior Vice President. He was an avid (if not competitive) golfer, scoring consistently anywhere between 101 and 102.
