Bonita Springs, FL

Daniel May, 67, of Bonita Springs, FL passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at his residence.

Formerly of Bloomfield Hills, MI he had been a resident of Naples for many years before relocating to Bonita Springs. He also enjoyed spending time at his home in Linville, NC.

Dan was born December 9, 1946 in Detroit, MI a son of the late Edwin J. and Jeanette E. (Szostak) May.

Mr. May was a Vietnam Veteran who served as a Seabee in the United States Navy.

In 1966, along with his father and brother, he founded Mayco Plastics, Inc. in Sterling Heights, MI until the time of his retirement in 1999.

Dan loved boating, fishing, golfing, woodworking and cars. He was also passionate about electronics and computers.

Mr. May was a member of the Bonita Bay Club, Linville Ridge Country Club and a past member of the Naples Yacht Club.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Dianne L. (Pokora) May; children, Christine (David) Hutchinson of Carolina Beach, NC, Brian (Kristen) May of Birmingham, MI; grandchildren, William, Heather, Haylie, Sarah and Lilly; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Edward S. May.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 11:30 a.m., at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 28290 Beaumont Road, Bonita Springs, FL 34134.

Inurnment will be held with military honors on Friday, August 1, 2014 at 10:00 a.m., at White Chapel Memorial Park in Troy, MI.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dan's name may be made to: Lees-McRae College, Daniel and Dianne May School of Nursing, P.O. Box 128, Banner Elk, NC 28604, American Red Cross of Collier County, Assisting Returning Veterans, 2610 North Brooke Plaza Drive, Naples, FL 34119, or to Hope Hospice, 9470 HealthPark Circle North, Fort Myers FL 33908.
