Ronald L. Stetler Naples, FL

Ronald L. Stetler, who loved his family and the law, died on Thursday at his home in Naples surrounded by his family. He was 61.

Born in Harrisburg, PA, Ron graduated with high honors and a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Florida. After graduating from the University of Florida law school, where he was a member of the Law Review, he and his wife Joni moved to Naples, where he practiced law from 1979 until his death. He was a Past President of the Collier County Bar Association and Naples Pelican Bay Rotary Club and former member of Leadership Collier.

This summer, Ron and his beloved wife Joni celebrated the 43rd anniversary of their first date. They raised three children, Caroline, Adam and Christine. His children often thanked him for everything he provided, but maybe not enough for being the honorable man he was. He loved to learn just for the sake of learning. He was ethical with an ability to genuinely see and analyze two sides of a situation or position. He loved politics, history, working in his yard and rock n' roll. He thrived on challenge and passionately fought the good fight each day. He was a man whose profession lifted him up, yet his family always knew they came first. He was his children's consummate teacher, scholar and friend, who instilled in them the value of hard work, loyalty and character. To know Ron was to know a complex man: his sense of fairness complemented his fun-loving nature, his commitment to justice was balanced by his ability to empathize and put himself in another's shoes. To be loved by such a great man was truly a gift.

Ron is survived by his wife; his children and their spouses, Brian Wacker and Rachel Stetler; and two sisters, Patricia Lemmon and Kathy Hay.
