GROTON -- Doreen T. (Riley) Homer passed away February 22, 2013, after an illness she unknowingly battled but which didn't extinguish her spirit.
Born March 22, 1942 in Revere, she was the daughter of the late Doris (Marchant) and Paul Riley and Paul Miles. She made her home in Groton, MA, where she raised her family. Doreen had also resided after her marriage in Ft. Lee, NJ, Brockton, and Quincy.
A graduate of Revere High School and Boston University School of Dental Nursing, Doreen had worked for several specialists in NY and the local area for 40 years. Later in retirement, Doreen for the last three years, until December, enjoyed utilizing her personality assisting customers at Options, a home furnishing boutique in Littleton where she indulged her love of design and creativity.
In addition to her husband, Edward W. of 47 years, Doreen leaves her daughter, Elizabeth M. of Littleton, Edward M. of Norton, and Andrew W. of Bainbridge Island, WA. Doreen also leaves a son-in-law, David Field, and daughters-in-law, Heather and Lauren, all of whom she loved as her own. Always upbeat,, Nana will be missed by her nine grandchildren, Olivia, Ben, Isabelle, Hannah, Matthew, Emma, Wilson, Alice, and Adam. Doreen is also survived by her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Phyllis Clarke (Bob) and Ruth Knowles (Sam) with whom she enjoyed many happy years as well as with her large extended family. Doreen also fondly enjoyed some special friends, Joyce, Frankie, Jasmine, Wanda, and Mary.
Doreen is also survived by one cousin, and was the sister of the late Michael Riley.
HOMER -- In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Doreen's name to a cancer fund of your choice, the Congregational Church Capital Fund, or other
. A Memorial service is scheduled at the Littleton Congregational Church (date and time below) where Doreen had assisted Sunday School during her children's formative years and where she celebrated her children's baptisms and marriage.
In addition, a separate memorial to scatter some of her ashes, will be held by her immediate family at York Beach where Doreen had "enjoyed" many of her children's earlier years.
Doreen's family would like to thank the nurses and staff as well as the Doctors and medical staff at Emerson Hospital and the staff at Life Care Center of Nashoba Valley in Littleton for their comfort and care. Doreen considered all as new friends.
Visiting Hours will be held at Badger Funeral Home, 347 King St., Littleton on Wednesday, Feb. 27 from 5-8 pm. A Memorial service will be on Saturday, March 2, at 11 am at The Littleton Congregational Church, 330 King St., Littleton, MA. Everyone is invited to meet at the church.
