AYER, MA -- Eleanor (Ferguson) Davis, died on Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, after a short battle with lung cancer.
Eleanor (Ferguson) Davis was born in Baltimore, Maryland. She graduated from Catonsville Senior High School in 1964 as her class Valedictorian. She received her Bachelor's Degree in English from Rice University in Houston, Texas, on a four-year Teagle Scholarship in 1968, where she was a dean's list student on the President's Honor Roll.
After two years of graduate study in Geology at Rice, where she also worked as a geologist for the Shell Oil Company, she became a sales representative in Foley's Department Store in Houston and quickly rose to the position of senior programmer/analyst in the sales audit department. She moved to Ayer in 1986, and worked in Boston as Senior Manager of Computer Applications at Filene's/Kaufmann's, a Billion-Dollar Retailer, until her retirement in 2006.
People will remember Eleanor Davis for her love of animals and nature and for her walks with her Belgian Shepherd on the town streets. In retirement, she kept a penetrating diary of these pursuits. She lived very happily alone in in a large house with her pets, where she might best be described as a perfect mistress of solitude.
She is survived by two brothers, Harry F. Ferguson, 3rd, of Virginia, and Robert A. Ferguson of New York City; two nephews, two great nephews, and a great niece.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no ceremony or service.
