TOWNSEND -- Jane Marie (Gobie) Churchville, 88, of Townsend, died Saturday, August 31, 2013, at her home.
Her husband of 61 years, Dr. Lawrence A. Churchville Jr., died September 6, 2006.
Mrs. Churchville was born in Groton, July 23, 1925, a daughter of William and Mary (MacGillvary) Gobie and resided in Groton and Arlington in her younger years. She was a 1943 graduate of Arlington High School and later continued her education at Katherine Gibbs School, Boston.
For 17 years, she worked as customer service representative at Elsa Williams Needlepoint Company in Townsend, retiring in 1985. Previously, she had worked at the former Groton Inn and at Groton Hospital, both in Groton, MA. She also assisted her husband in the management of his medical practice in Townsend.
She was a communicant of St. John's Church in Townsend and had been a member of its Ladies Sodality. She had been a member of the Democratic Town Committee, enjoyed horseback riding, needlepoint and playing bridge. Mrs. Churchville had been an active member of the Nashoba Community Hospital Auxiliary.
She was instrumental in the formation of the North Middlesex Regional High School Scholarship Committee. She was a former member of the NMRS Building Committee and PTA.
She leaves two sons, Lawrence A. Churchville III MD, Michael W. Churchville both of Townsend; four daughters, Sara C. Joy of Pepperell, Patricia C. Russell of Townsend, Maryjane Churchville of Englewood, CA, and Suzann C. Blood of Bellevue, WA; a brother, William Gobie Jr. of San Clemente, CA; a sister, Phoebe Morse of Middlebury, VT; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a sister, Marceline Frink of Santa Monica, CA.
CHURCHVILLE -- A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 A.M., on Friday, September 6, 2013 at St. John the Evangelist Church, 1 School St., Townsend. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery.
