Lucy (Oliva) Amistadi
of Acton; 90
ACTON -- Lucy (Oliva) Amistadi, 90, of Acton since 2002, formerly of Syosset, New York, died Friday, February 15, 2013 at Mass General Hospital in Boston. She was the beloved wife of the late E. Henry Amistadi who died in 2008.
Born in Brooklyn, New York on October 6, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Lucia Oliva. She attended elementary school in Brooklyn, graduated from Erasmus Hall in 1940, and attended St. John College in New York.
Before becoming a homemaker, she worked as an executive assistant in the insurance industry. She devoted most of her life to her family-her children and her grandchildren. She held sacred the value of family and strived to pass on that sensibility. She loved her family unconditionally and was deeply loved in return.
She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, crafting many sweaters and intricate crocheted lace table scarves. She also garnered a passion for Colonial rug hooking, creating beautiful, hand-dyed award-winning rugs and decorative pieces. After raising her children, her love of history and nature led her to volunteer at Old Bethpage Village and Muttontown Nature Preserve in Long Island, New York. She faced life's challenges with courage and encouraged those around her to do the same. She leaves behind many caring friends.
Survivors include her son, Henry R. Amistadi of Groton, her daughter, Lynn Knight of Carlisle, her daughter-in-law, Jessica Engels, son-in-law Garrett Knight, her grandchildren, Henry M. Amistadi, Cassi Knight and Matthew Knight, her sister, Maria Composto of Brooklyn, New York, and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brother, Michael Oliva, and sister, Santina Hack.
