LAS VEGAS, NV -- Thomas J. O'Connell, 56, formerly of the Ayer-Shirley area, died suddenly in Las, Vegas on July 1, 2013. He was born in Woburn, MA on April 11, 1957 son of the late William and Mary (Foley) O'Connell.
Tom graduated from Ayer Jr. Sr. High School in 1975 and had a BS from Fitchburg State. He was an adventurer who loved to travel. He worked the oil fields in Saudi Arabia, met the mother of his sons in Thailand, sold cars on Guam, and traveled extensively through the South Pacific. Tom always had his binoculars close by to look for hawks, eagles, osprey and other birds as he crossed America. At the time of his passing, Tom was living in Las Vegas and playing poker professionally. He passed on his love for basketball and his salesmanship ability to his sons, Senee and Joe O'Connell. Tom lived his life fully and enjoyed his adventurous lifestyle.
He is survived by his son Joseph O'Connell of Leominster, Senee O'Connell of Westford, 2 sisters, Jeannie Condon, of Holden, Carol Schaefer of Shirley and a brother Joseph O'Connell of Shirley, 4 Grandchildren William O'Connell, Reese O'Connell, Alexis O'Connell and MacKenzie O'Connell, his five nieces; Julia and Kristina Ray, Danielle (Danny) Stone, Stevie Schaeffer and Jaclyn Condon, his aunt, Ruth Hardy, many cousins and several lifelong friends.
