JoAnn Leasure was called home to be with the Lord on June 21, 2017 from North Fort Myers, Florida at the age of 77. JoAnn was born in Clairton, Pennsylvania in 1939 and was predeceased by her parents, Jane (nee Wallace) and George Leasure and her only sibling, brother Eddie Leasure. She received a B.S. degree in Education from State Teachers College, California, PA in 1962 and a M.A. degree in Student Personnel Services from Rider College, Lawrenceville, NJ in 1970. In addition, she received educational credits from Fairleigh Dickinson University, University of Santa Clara and Glassboro State. Miss Leasure started her teaching career at Sterling High School, Somerdale, NJ in September 1961, and moved on to Riverside High School, Riverside, NJ in 1967 through 1971. In September 1971 JoAnn was hired by the Cinnaminson Township Board of Education, Cinnaminson, NJ as Guidance Counselor at Cinnaminson High School. In 1989 the school district conferred on her the dual roles of Guidance Counselor and Substance Abuse Coordinator at the high school; in 1990 she became the school district's full-time Substance Abuse Coordinator. During her tenure at Cinnaminson High School, Miss Leasure was Head and Assistant Girls' Basketball Coach, Class Advisor and STOP (Students Teaching Options & Prevention) Club Advisor. Under her tutelage, the high school students in the STOP Club were trained to go into the elementary grades to teach those students about the effects of drugs and alcohol use. As Substance Abuse Coordinator, JoAnn was instrumental in organizing many activities related to educating students of all ages in the district on those matters. In fact, she spent her last few years as Guidance Counselor at Cinnaminson Middle School (grades 6 to 8). JoAnn retired on June 30, 1997. Miss Leasure was elected to two terms (1989 an 1992) on the Palmyra Borough Council in New Jersey. JoAnn purchased her home in The Parkway Condos in 1988 and moved there full-time in 1997. She was most recently President of The Parkway Condominium Association. JoAnn was previously a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church in Riverton, NJ and was a youth minister for four years at Collingswood Presbyterian Church in Collingswood, NJ before moving to Florida full-time in 1997. She became a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church November 12, 2000. She served two 3-year terms as Elder - Class of 2008 and Class of 2014, was Chairperson of the Membership/Evangelism Committee, taught Sunday School on a regular basis and was, most recently, a Vacation Bible School teacher. Miss Leasure was a member of the Presbyterian Women in Peace River Presbytery serving as a former Moderator of that organization, traveled on the Synod of the South Atlantic this year and served on several significant committees of the Presbytery from 2006 through 2017. Over the years JoAnn enjoyed her pets, travel, golf, mahjong, but most of all spending time with those she loved. Her devotion to her faith, and career and life experiences, combined to allow JoAnn to always be in service to and connection with youth, her church, her community, her friends and her ever growing family of choice. To know her was to love her. JoAnn is survived by her beloved godson, Matthew Schuler and her extended families who considered her their daughter, sister, aunt or cousin including the DiCampli, Lombardi, Marino, Marino-Munion, Perna, Rago, Schillig, Schuler, Tolerico and Wassell families . She is also survived by her Covenant Presbyterian Church family and her many friends in and around North Fort Myers who considered her their confidante, counselor, dear friend and fellow celebrant of life, as well as colleagues, students and friends in FL, MA, NJ, PA and VT, especially the Becker, Kelly and Malecki families. All of those who knew and loved JoAnn Leasure wish to extend our special thanks to the Lee County Major Crimes Unit in appreciation of their tireless dedication and commitment to seeking swift justice on behalf of our beloved JoAnn. JoAnn Leasure's Memorial Service will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 2439 McGregor Boulevard, Fort Myers, FL Friday, July 14 at 11:00 AM, officiated by Rev. Dr. Jeffrey DeYoe, Pastor. There will also be a Memorial Service for JoAnn on Wednesday, September 6 at 11:00 AM at Christ the King Church, 200 Windsor Avenue, Haddonfield, NJ, officiated by Rev. James T. Dever. In honor of JoAnn's years of service to the New Jersey education system, donations in memoriam may be made to the "JoAnn Leasure Scholarship Fund" payable to the Cinnaminson Board of Education and mailed to Mrs. Deborah McKinley, Cinnaminson High School, 1195 Riverton Road, Cinnaminson, New Jersey 08077.
