Ann CROSS Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 23 to Jan. 24, 2013.

CROSS, Ann
October 9, 1920 - January 20, 2013

Our mother, Veronica Ann Abbott Cross, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Sarcee Hospice, Calgary. Mom lived a very full 92 years.

With first husband, Brian Martin Abbott, Mom had a family of five children: Michelle, Maureen, Patrick (Pamela), Martin (Jane), Marshall (Paula). Upon Dad's untimely death at age 41, our exceptional mother raised her five children with humour and determination. Our Elbow Park home was full of friends and neighbours looking for a warm cinnamon bun or an opportunity to join in the shenanigans.

In 1974, Mom married Alexander Rothney "Sandy" Cross. They created a life together in the Foothills of the Rockies and travelled the world. Before Sandy's death in 2003, their donation of 5000 acres of rolling Foothills land to the people of Alberta established the Ann and Sandy Cross Conservation Area. It was the largest private land donation in Canada at the time and continues as a welcoming nature preserve that has, to date, hosted 100,000 school children in enriching educational programmes.

Our mother enjoyed a family that has grown to thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all with a passion for learning and adventure. Rest in peace, Mom.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Christ Anglican Church in Millarville, AB. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Ann and Sandy Cross Conservation Area (www.crossconservation.org).
