Benjamin David Banky 1968-2008 Ben has been taken from us and our loss is immeasurable. He was a wonderful man: loving, compassionate, charitable, witty, passionate, and filled with the joy of life. His untimely death leaves a host of grieving hearts across Canada, and he is especially mourned by his beloved wife Linda Rae, his parents Jake and Kathy, his brothers John and Derby, and their families. If there really is an afterlife, Ben is reunited with his much loved brother Alan who died in 2003. Everything Ben did in life was done with heart and humour. He loved cooking for his friends, opening too many bottles of wine, singing, playing the guitar and playing at the cello and mandolin, speaking Spanish and Mandarin, arguing, laughing, and trying something new, like painting or fly-fishing. He was a founding member and lead singer with the local funk-blues-R&B ensemble Big Head Project, playing to raise funds for causes he believed in. Ben was also a hard-working and successful entrepreneur. In 1996, with his good friend and partner Matt Breech, he co-founded Tallgrass Distribution, a natural health product manufacturer and distributor servicing retailers across North America. As president and CEO of Tallgrass he took great pride in running a "green" business which treats its staff more like family than employees. He was a socially conscious and civic-minded person, actively involved in promoting environmental and ethical initiatives in public policy. He dedicated some of his energy and commitment to Vision Vancouver, the provincial Green Party, and recently was elected to the board of the Canadian Health Food Association. Ben always brought with him joy and laughter. He will be forever missed and forever loved. A celebration of Ben's life will be held on Sunday December 21st between 4 pm and midnight at Richard's on Richards - 1036 Richards Street in Vancouver. In lieu of flowers a trust account for the "Ben Banky Entrepreneurial Scholarship" has been established and donations can be made on site or directly to any branch of CIBC to the "Ben Banky Trust" - CIBC Account 00010/81-42998.
