van WETTUM, Alfred Ernst
Ridder in de Orde of Oranje-Nassau
December 21, 1924 - October 12, 2012
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a dear husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Fred was born in Amsterdam. During WW2, he was a member of the Dutch resistance in Thorn, Holland. After the war, he worked for Garuda Indonesian Airlines, where he met his wife of more than 60 years, Anna Marie Berkhout. Fred and Anna Marie were married in Djakarta, Indonesia. While living in Indonesia, Pakistan and Holland, they had 4 children. In 1964, the family moved to Beaconsfield, Quebec, where Fred worked for KLM Royal Dutch Airlines as Marketing and Sales Manager for Canada. He enjoyed 30 years of retirement, spending time with his family (which expanded to include his children's partners, 14 grandchildren, their partners and 1 great grand-daughter), taking university courses, playing bridge, following world events on his computer, travelling, and watching as many international soccer matches as he could. A celebration of his life took place on Wednesday, October 17, 2012. Donations to the NOVA West Island in his name would be appreciated. Condolences may be sent to Oma273@hotmail.ca
