Harry KRANC Obituary

Published by National Post on Mar. 31, 2012.
KRANC, Harry (Yisrael Tzvi/Herish) z"l
Passed away at the age of 84, on March 22, 2012 at Sunnybrook Hospital, after a long and courageous struggle with illness. Born in Zamosc, Poland on September 24, 1927, the son of Joel and Miriam (Schwartzberg) Kranc, and the last remaining member of six siblings. Beloved husband of Sarah (Rosenblatt) for 55 years, and father of Phyllis and husband Michael, Benjamin and wife Tina, Steven and wife Jennifer, and Joel and wife Danielle. Loving grandfather to Mark, Moishe, Jason, Saffire, Austin, Lauren, Nolan, Adam, Amanda, Max, and Aaron, and loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. World War II broke out when Harry was 12, and he and his family survived the war in the difficult conditions of Russia clinging to their Jewish faith, and using only their wits. Harry made his way to the United States and later Canada, and despite many obstacles, and through hard work and perseverance, became a successful businessman and selfless provider for his family - his most important objective. Despite a lack of formal education, Harry sought knowledge, and was well-versed in Judaism and many other issues, speaking six languages. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. The family would like to thank the rehabilitation staff at Bridgepoint Hospital, the palliative nurses at Sunnybrook Hospital, and personal caregivers Marie, Moya, Maureen, Norma, and Elvira for their wonderful and selfless service. Donations in Harry's memory may be made to the Canadian Magen David Adom for Israel, (416) 780 0034, www.cmdai.org
