DOWBIGGIN, Mary Margaret Therese
nee Mahoney
The Mahoney Choir is reunited with its alto. Mary Margaret Therese (Mahoney) Dowbiggin born May 9, 1926, left us for the celestial choir on May 2, 2018. Daughter of Cornelius and Therese, she was the cherished sister to Gerry, Conny, Burke, Teddy and Francis. After singing at Montreal's Darcy McGee High School and in the troop shows of WWII, she met a former RCAF flyer named Bill. They were married in 1950, and within ten years produced a quintet of sons. Ian (Chris), Peter (Joanne), Bruce (Meredith), Gordon (Carolyn) and Stewart (Amanda). From Montreal to Edmonton, back to Montreal, Sherbrooke, Montreal again, they crossed the country with the boys, before setting down roots in Burlington. Her thirst for learning never left her. When her family was done their schooling, Terry obtained her B.A. in English literature from the University of Toronto at age 68. Beloved and stylish Grandma to Beth and Christopher; Sydney (Joel) and Joanna (Alex); Evan (Hannah), Rhys (Melissa) and Clare; Colleen, Maureen (Nigel) and James (Caroline); Tristan, Calum and Devan; now joined by great-grandchildren Lucy and Teddy, and Oliver. Her legacy is the brood that mourns her keenly today. She loved to host them at Lake Orford, Lake Louisa and in Tequesta. While Bill watched his Blue Jays, Terry made everyone feel special, passing on her love of dogs, Tony Bennett and Mavis Gallant. She leaves us with a song in our heart, a smile on our lips and the knowledge that we've been deeply loved by a remarkable woman. Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 485 Brant Street (one block North of City Hall), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Friday, May 4 from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday, May 5 from 4-6 p.m. Interment will take place in Quebec. In lieu of flowers donations please to Burlington Humane Society. www.smithsfh.com
