Ray was born in Harrow, England, and had one younger brother, Dennis. Ray worked, and played rugby, for Kodak. He moved to Toronto in 1953, married Mary in 1954, and their daughter Barbara was born a year later. Ray was a long time member of the Wanderers rugby club, where he and Mary made a great many friends. Ray and Mary bought their home in 1958, and Ray was still living there up until a year ago when he moved to a retirement residence. Ray and Mary particularly loved to spend time with family and friends at their cottage on the Otonabee River, built in 1963. Barbara and Colin and their daughter Diana, son-in-law Micah, and son John feel surrounded by good memories of Ray and Mary, and also of Colin's parents John and Jean, when spending time at the cottage.

After Mary's death in 1993, Ray remarried in 1996, and Ray and Essel enjoyed spending summers in Muskoka and winters in Florida, with frequent family visits. In their later years Ray and Essel were comfortable in Ray's Scarborough home. Ray moved to the Donway Place retirement residence less than a year after Essel passed away. He said the meals were good there!
Ray enjoyed a full life and we know that he will be missed by Essel's family and friends as well as by his own family and friends.
