ELDRED, Gerald (Gerry) Marcus
Born October 5, 1934 in Galt, Ontario; died June 18, 2013 in Mississauga, Ontario. Survived by Marjorie Eldred (nee Kidd), his loving wife of 56 years. Also survived by his twin-sister Joan (Walt) Ferguson of Guelph, Ontario; his half-sister Kathy (Steve) Eadie of Mississauga, Ontario; his sister-in-law Catherine Patterson-Kidd of Ottawa, Ontario; his aunt, Irene Schmidt, of Cambridge, Ontario; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues. He is predeceased by his father Albert Eldred of Essex, England and his mother Hope Eldred (nee Bardwell) of Chester, Nova Scotia. He is also predeceased by his son Peter and his infant son Andrew. Gerry had a distinguished career as an executive in support of the Canadian arts industry. His career included leadership positions at the Manitoba Theatre Centre (Winnipeg), National Ballet of Canada (Toronto), the National Ballet School (Toronto), the Stratford Festival and Harbourfront Corporation (Toronto). Accolades he received include the Queen Elizabeth Silver Jubilee Award in 1997, the 1989 Award from the Association of Cultural Executives and The Silver Ticket Award presented in 1998 at the Toronto Theatre Alliance (The Dora's). Private cremation arrangements are entrusted with Turner & Porter "Neweduk-Erin Mills" Chapel. A small private family service will be held in Breslau, Ontario followed by interment at Memory Gardens at a later date. A public memorial service will be planned for interested friends and colleagues in Toronto later this year.
