Merle Taube (nee Alexandroff) was born in Toronto and grew up in St. Catharines. She lived most of her adult life in Toronto, and died there peacefully in her home after a valiant struggle with cancer. She was the beloved daughter of Dr. Max and Rhona Alexandroff, and darling granddaughter of Samuel and Millie Tomarin. She is survived by her devoted husband and best friend of 46 years, Stanley. She leaves her loving son, Michael (married to Rosa) and her loving daughter, Marlene (married to Jeffrey). She leaves her adorable grandchildren, Andrew, Joshua and Leah, who gave her great joy and affection in her final years. She is survived by her brother, Alan (married to Carole) and two accomplished nieces, Rachael and Miriam. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Toronto. She went on to teach English as a Second Language (ESL) in the Toronto high school system - and for many years thereafter as a volunteer. Merle was interested in art, music and literature. She also became very talented in horticulture, as witnessed by the lovely flower displays each year in front of her condominium. Merle had many wonderful friends, and shared in their joys and tribulations. But raising her family and watching them grow and flourish was paramount. She left a positive effect on all whom she met. She will always be fondly and lovingly remembered. Hers was a life well lived.
