Winifred L. Curts, 100, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2012, at 11:30 p.m. at the Wesley Manor in Frankfort, Ind. Formerly of Brook, she was born June 20, 1911, in Bourbon, Ind., to the late Rev. Bert Chambers and Margaret Moore Chambers. She graduated from Brook High School in 1930, and I.C.C. in 1932. Her marriage was to Charles A. "Chalk" Curts on April 14, 1933, in Brook. He preceded her in death on March 13. 1990, in Rensselaer.

Winifred was a retired teacher, and taught first and third grades for eight years at Brook Elementary School. She was a member of the Brook United Methodist Church, Sisters of Ruth for 50 years, sang in the church choir for 60 years, and was a member of the former Brook Music Club. She also sang in the "Singing Saints" at Wesley Manor.
She enjoyed sewing and ceramics.
Surviving are two sons, Richard E. (Mona) Curts of Indianapolis, and C. David (Patti) Curts of Lafayette; three grandchildren, Stan, Doug and Mark; three great-grandchildren and two great-great-granchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Agnes and Ruth, and two brothers, John and Marshall.
Visitation was Monday, March 26, from 10-11 a.m. at the Gerts Funeral Home in Brook. Funeral Services followed at 11 a.m. with Rev. Sue Beckett officiating. Interment took place at the Riverside Cemetery in Brook.
