Clayton Monk Obituary

Clayton Willard Monk, 85 MENIFEE -- Clayton Monk died peacefully at home on Sunday, December 11, 2011. Born August 25, 1926 in Viborg, South Dakota, he first came west to California as a boy with his parents and three sisters. Following his service with the U.S. Army in the Philippines, during and after World War II as a technician and photographer, he eventually relocated to Phoenix, Arizona, where he began his career in heating and air conditioning. Working with Goettl Bros., who was contracted to install air conditioners in all of Del Webb's newly developing Sun City homes, he returned to California in 1962. In 1983, he founded Monk's Air Conditioning, which continues to operate in the area under the ownership of his eldest son, Steve. Known to many as simply "Monk," and to his family as "Will," he made many long-lasting friendships in the community. After retirement in 1988, Will enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S., visiting with family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Conna; six adult children, nine grandchildren and one great-grandson. A service of remembrance will be held at the Riverside National Cemetery at 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday, December 21, 2011. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund, 1700 Iowa Ave., Suite 230, Riverside, Calif. 92507. Sign the Guest Book online obits.nctimes.com
