Coach M,
You have had such a substantial impact on my life as a football coach, a mentor, and as a friend. You taught me what it takes to be successful defensive lineman and we had so much fun in the process. It was great to see you on the sidelines at Maverick football games the last couple of years and I will always cherish the last moments I spent with you.
The void your passing has left on that sideline and in the community will never be filled. Although you are physically gone, I can see you now watching over all your loved ones with a chuckle and big smile on your face. I will never forget that chuckle for as long as I live. I miss you coach and love you.

Coach,
You lived a life of dedication and service to you student athletes. The inspiration and guidance you gave my peers and myself helped mold us not only into champions on the field/mat but also in the classroom and later in the world at large. Your emphasis on character & intellect as well as athleticism should be the standard for all educators.
It was an honor to play for you and to coach along side you. I have only fond memories of you.
My heart is with your family,

Fritz,
You are a beautiful person. You touched so many lives, and those lives are better for having known you. You were always a teacher, helping us to see our selves the way you saw us. Ever positive, you found the best in us and focusing on that, made us better. Your impact on me was tremendous. Not just the way you threw me around the coach’s office, squashed me into the sofa or ground a massive knuckle into my temple. Those memories make me smile. By being around you I learned to be a better coach and a better teacher. I learned to listen more and speak less. I learned to appreciate the moment. Those memories have made me a better person. I take the things I learned from you into everyday. I am blessed for having known you.
God Bless you Fritz and God be with your family.

Coach M,
You were a big reason that so many of us loved football and wrestling at San Dieguito HS. You were an example to us of what we should become as men. We were "molded" by your influence.
One my favorite memories was watching you try to keep a straight face while we received a lecture from the head coach for a prank the D-line pulled before our first game. It was only during the Celebration of Life that I realized what a prankster you were and how the D-line was following your example in playing hard and loving life.
Thank you for being our coach!

Fritz, my classmate, fellow athlete, and most of all my "friend". I am so sorry to hear of your passing. I remember all of the great days we had getting through school together at Earl Warren Junior Hi, and then we went to Oak Crest and finally San Dieguito High School. We had great times at San Dieguito with all of our classmates during our breaks and the many activities we participated in school. Those are great memories we had San Dieguito. Also, how can I forget, many years after we had graduated and I was living in Maryland and Gary R had come to visit me and my family and we were touring Washington D.C and we happend to see you also in Washington D.C when you were on vaction with your family. I mean, what are the chances of something like that happening when we lived 3000 miles apart. What a great surprise that was. Again, my friend I am so sorry to hear of your passing and I will miss you.

You will dearly be missed by the entire community you touched over the years. You played an integral role in creating my passion for fitness, even as a punk skateboarder I enjoyed your weight training class in 10th grade. Legends truly do live forever, through family, friends, students, athletes, and everyone they encounter in their lives. My condolences to the Muhlethaler family.

Coach M,
I want to personally thank you for being a positive influence in my young adulthood. From you I learned the fundamentals of self-discipline, mental toughness, and pushing myself physically. I'm a better man today because of your teachings. I know that you would truly be awestruck at the multitudes you have molded on the field and in the classroom. I am extremely proud to say that I was one of them.
I also want to thank you for being such a good friend to my late father - from playing football together as young bucks at San Dieguito/Pomona, to coaching and teaching impressionable young minds for 30+ years. I know the two of you are up there somewhere reminiscing about the good ol' days.
To Judy, Matt, and Nathan - hold your head up high, and carry on the honorable name that is his legacy to you all...

As the mother of one of your student/athletes(Tom Pellegrino), I always knew how blessed we were to have you in our lives. Your mentoring of my son, both on and off the football fields, wrestling mats and classrooms was gift I never took for granted. The continuing parallels of Tom's life to yours speaks volumes of love, respect and admiration to the legacy of our "genlte, humble giant".
I want to thank Judy for sharing such a treasure with not just us, but the world. Fritz's impact will be felt for generations to come. We all deeply share your loss.
Some people leave footprints on our lives. Fritz left footprints on our souls. Rest in peace my friend, you've earned it. I know God's benevolence will truly mirror the life you lived.
With immense gratitude and sadness,

Such a legacy. Fritz lives on through his family, students, athletes, and colleagues who have drawn from his strength, quiet resolve, and dedication. The SDUHSD and San Dieguito community will forever benefit from all that Fritz has given. Coach M,
Thank you for the time and energy that you showered on the students that you taught, coached and knew. You influenced us tremendously and we are all better for having known you. Your leadership, example, enthusiasm and zest for life was shared with us daily at SDHS.
You were our track and field coach and your advice as you tried to work with us on discus and shotput was sage- 'remember the release...otherwise you'll just get really dizzy'.
I remember interviewing you for San Dieguito Live and what a great sport you always were for whatever zany ideas we wanted to do.
Thanks for the memories, Coach M.

Coach M was a wonderful man. I was blessed to have him as a football and wrestling coach all four years of high school at LCC. I will never forget his huge hands and the first time I shook his hand freshman year. But what left a more lasting impression on me was his kindness and genuine desire to help me succeed. I respected Coach M so much and looked up to him. Another fun memory was the day I found out Mrs. M would be my math teacher sophomore year. She challenged me and helped me have a great year in the classroom, and it was a lot of fun seeing her at football games and wrestling meets over the next few years. I was always impressed by Coach M's dedication and the passion he had for teaching and coaching young people. He never got angry or yelled to motivate me, instead I respected and looked up to him so much that I wanted to give my best because Coach M believed in me and what I was capable of.
I am so saddened to hear of Coach M's passing, and I am so sorry for the Muhlethaler family and your premature loss of a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandpa, uncle and cherished friend. He dedicated his life to help me and thousands of other students, and I thank him and your family for sharing him with us.
May your family find peace and happiness as you look back on the wonderful life he lived.

Papa Muhlee was a man that enjoyed life, and enjoyed watching it in others. He was impossible not to love, and thus will be greatly missed. His profound impact on my life, as so many others, cannot be measured and is only reached by few. Fritz was the man! I will miss watching 007, the frustrations had with Zelda, you "watering" the plants off the patio, your grilled cheese sandwiches and cold beer, but mostly I'll miss your laugh; a cross between Santa's ho ho ho and a lion's purr... infectious. Encinitas will not be the same without you. Though my heart aches over the early departure, it rejoices in your spirit that lives on in your lineage, your loved ones, as well as in my Swiss heart. On behalf of the entire Ross clan, we send our love to all the Muhlethalers during this time of great loss. Yours is a beautiful legacy and I'm honored to have my small part.

Coach M,
The foremost memory that comes into my mind when I think about you was your giant hand engulfing my head as you pat my head at the conclusion of each wrestling match. No matter the outcome, a win or a loss, I could always count on getting a pat on the head. To the normal onlooker it would appear as a simple pat, but for those of us honored people who received the pat, there was something more to it. Without words spoken, I knew exactly what you were communicating to me. Encouragement and sympathy in the midst of defeat, and praise in victory. It always would come at the perfect time. Above it all, in each pat that I received I knew that you were communicating something that was greater than encouragement or praise. You would pat because you cared.
Thank you.
Thank you for the countless pats that you gave to me. The relationship that I was able to have with you as my Coach was truly an honor. I always knew you cared.

Dear Coach M.
By comparison, I was a puny freshman when you nicknamed me 'Battle-wood.' From the outside, there was a frame but little strength. Week after week, match after match, you watched as people bent and tweaked my body. Your advice was not to work harder or smarter. Instead you reached in, grabbed what you saw as my strength, and placed it on my shoulders. You gave me something that would apply through out; to continue beyond the days of wrestling. For that, and many memories equal, Thank you Coach.

Big Man, It is an honor to call you my friend for the last 34 years. You loved so many things-teaching, coaching, shooting trap, card games, clinics, boating, camping, good food, Vegas and always having a good time whatever you were doing. But most of all, you loved your family and being a father. You are a great father and leave a great legacy with your sons and grandson. Of all the things you taught me, the lessons about fatherhood live with me in my everyday life. Fritzie, Thaler, or as I sometimes affectionately called you Walter(and lived to tell about it), you will be sorely missed, but never forgotten.

There is no greater tribute to a woman or man than the children they raise. I was inspired by Mr. M in ninth grade English and then by Mrs. M my senior year in science. Ten years later, I found myself working with Matt at Home Depot. I remember thinking "What a good kid! They've done such a great job!" As many have said and will say, Mr. M touched the lives of many in the community. My thoughts are with you as you celebrate the life of your husband and father.

Fritz, you were a wonderful friend, father, husband, teacher, and coach. You will be missed more than mere words can express, and I will always remember your good humor and loving ways. You were the role model for every coach in California; giving of your time and energy through three seasons of sports: football, wrestling, and track. Today it takes three men to replace you, and nobody can do it your way. Rest In Peace Coach M, we love you and will forever hold you in our hearts. Ed and Loretta

Coach M,
Thank you for the lessons on manhood, believing in myself, dedication, character, and the English language. You were inspirational to me and so many others. In my eyes, you were the quintessential teacher and coach...in it for the right reasons (kids), and forever dedicated to the craft of teaching and coaching...always learning and progressing. Teacher of the Year, Assistant Coach of the Year for Southern CA are just a few of the accolades that reinforce the human impact you had on so many lives!
Your family must be proud that so many knew the person that you loved and called dad, husband, and brother.
You taught me that it is not how many times you get knocked down, but how quickly you get back up that counts. That lesson on perseverance and grit should serve us all well in your passing.
Your molding and teaching is done, now it is time for you to sit back, relax and watch the seeds you planted grow.
Thank you for being in my life.
