Jay Hilmer Obituary

Jay Hilmer, 63 ESCONDIDO -- A memorial service was held on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at the Santa Clara Church of Christ in Eugene, Oregon, for Jay R. Hilmer of Eugene, Oregon, formerly of Chico, California. He died on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 due to complications arising from Leukemia, the result of a rare blood disorder known as Myelodysplagia. He was born on January 20, 1947 in Burbank, California to Dale and Evalyn Hilmer. He married his love, Debbie Ahl in 1981. Hilmer grew up in the then small town of Escondido, California, and graduated from Palomar Junior College and California Western University in 1968 with a B.A. in Psychology. He was proud of his subsequent service in the Air Force from 1968-1972 and serving in the Vietnam era. He graduated from Long Beach State in 1974 with a B.A. in Physical Therapy, and from Redlands University in 1982 with a M.A. in Health Care Management. Throughout his career, he held positions in Rehabilitation and Hospital Administration, his final position being the Vice President of Rehabilitation Services for Pinnacle Healthcare, Inc. in Springfield, Ore. His love was of the outdoors whether it was boating, hiking, or fishing, and he most enjoyed camping with his family and friends and cooking special meals. Those friends, close or distant, knew Jay as a loving, kind and caring person, always willing to make sure others needs were met before his own. He was especially proud of his children and their desire to pursue a career in health care. He was preceded in death by his father, Dale. He is survived by his wife, Debbie of Eugene; son, Jayson of Chico; daughter, Jayme of Eugene; mother, Evalyn, of Escondido; and brother, Steve of Barrington, Ill. Remembrances may be made to any church or organization of your choice. His ashes will be returned to the areas he so loved. Sign the Guest Book online obits.nctimes.com

Dear Debbie, Jayson, Jayme and family,

We were saddened to hear of Jay's passing. Jay's smile and upbeat nature will be fondly remembered as well as his ability to help his neighbors at a moments notice. We loved how he would stop by for a neighborly chat and the parties he and Debbie threw at their lovely home.

Sincerely, Pat, Ann and Kyle Patterson

I was deeply saddened to hear about Jay's passing, Please accept my sympathy, and know that my love, thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Jay was the BEST and I have so many wonderful memories of him. I was blessed to have worked with and for him throughout his career at LPIH. He truly was "Mr. Rehab" and created a Rehab unit second to none in Southern Calif.

May the Lord bless and comfort all of you during this difficult time. Let your hearts be filled with loving memories and joyful times together.
Love, Deanna Rennich

We were deeply saddened to hear about Jay's passing. He was such a kind and gentle person and would do anything to help someone in need.

We will always remember his wedding shower at our home in Cerritos, and how much he enjoyed being soaked in the pool by his many LPIH friends.

May God bless you and watch over your family, and may your memories bring you comfort during this difficult time.

My memories of Jay are so many, as our families spent many years camping together in Tuolumne Meadows. We had such fun fishing and hiking, and playing cards at night around the campfire. May you feel comfort in the love that is sent to you at this difficult time. My condolences to all of the Hilmer family.

My condolences to Jay's wife and family. I met Jay in his Chico/ONR days and we enjoyed a friendly rivalry in competing companies. He usually won. I am glad he found a happy ending to his career. He was a good man whose work made many lives better. I regret I could not see him one more time. Rest in peace Mr. Hilmer. Jeff Garbutt, Folsom,CA

I had the honor of being Debbie and Jay's neighbor for a few years in Chico and it is a very sad day to lose someone as great a person as Jay. I wish the best for the family and will always cherish those Margarita's by their pool and the great times we had.
All the best. Mac Murray - Chico
