Barbara (Peggy) Jean Dovichi passed away on March 17, 2018 surrounded by family at the age of 78 after a short illness.

Peggy is survived by her husband of 59 years Joseph of Daly City, CA, sons David (Stephanie) of Sacramento, CA, Dennis (Sherry) of Rio Vista, CA, Douglas (Debbi) of Metairie, Louisiana and Darren (Ana) of Pacifica, CA. Loving grandmother of Ashley, Courtney, Gregory, Kristina, Miguel, Messina, Nicholas and Vincent. Loving great grandmother of Dylan, Ryan and Valentino. Peggy is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces.

Peggy was a second generation San Franciscan born to Bartholomew and Columbina McCarthy on September 6, 1939; she lived on Idora Avenue and her family then moved to Greenbrae, CA in 1956. Peggy's father was a prominent roofing contractor in San Francisco. Peggy was preceded by her brothers Bart and Jim and sister Frances and is survived by her brother William McCarthy of Sacramento, CA.

Peggy attended Saint Brendan's grammar school and Mercy High School in San Francisco. As a young child, during construction of the Sunset district, she would accompany her father on Sundays, and while he reviewed the progress of roofing projects, she would assist with cleanup and collect wood scraps for her craft projects.

Peggy was part of Mercy High's first four-year graduating class. Peggy was fondly remembered by the Sisters of Mercy having been praised as a model student in a school publication fifty years after her graduation, which generated playful teasing from her brother.

Peggy was a stay-at-home mom who by the age of twenty-six had four sons. In addition to keeping busy with her sons she and other Park Manor Drive moms helped keep tabs on other neighborhood children that at one point numbered one-hundred under the age of ten. During the school year Peggy would attend her sons sporting events and was a den mother for their Cub Scout troop. Each summer was spent with her sons at the Russian River cabin (East Guernewood Park) and her husband would join them on his days off. Peggy was very active in her sons' education having been involved with Our Lady of Mercy Women's Club and as past president of the Riordan High School Women's Guild. Like her parents Peggy loved to gamble and made numerous trips to casinos throughout her lifetime with her husband. Peggy also enjoyed travel and cruises with her husband, late friend Valerie Guaraglia and Arlene Guaraglia.

But it was Peggy's strength of character and selfless, compassionate nature that she will be remembered for most. We thank God for the years we shared with her.

Friends are invited to a funeral mass that will be celebrated on Saturday, April 14th at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Church, One Elmwood Drive, Daly City.

Donations may be made in her memory to the SPCA.
