John (Jay) Jesse Beers, 60, of Pearl River, died Feb. 23, 2013.
He was born June 2, 1952, according to Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home, which handled his funeral arrangements and published his obituary.
He was gifted with the ability to master any musical instrument he touched and was known as one of the finest lead guitarists in the area. He once played at the Apollo Theater in Manhattan and was seen on TV during that appearance. He played other venues in New York City as well and organized concerts there. He also had a local TV show in Westchester -- "Reel to Reel" -- in which he and a partner reviewed music videos in the 1980s.
He was the sole proprietor of Westchester Brass and Woodwind in Mamaroneck for more than 30 years.
Survivors include his mother, Joan S. Beers; a daughter, Rachel Marie Beers; and a sister, Jennifer Beers Walker and her husband, William L. Walker.
He was preceded in death by his father, John C. Beers; and a cousin, S.D. (Chip) Beers.
His funeral took place Feb. 27 at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home in Pearl River.
