Joseph V. Scaringe, 53, formerly of Orangeburg, died Jan. 5, 2013, in St. Petersburg, Fla.
He was born in 1959, according to Joseph W. Sorce Funeral Home Inc., which handled his funeral arrangements and ran his obituary.
He was a 1978 graduate of Tappan Zee High School, where he was a member of the football and wrestling teams. He attended Arizona State University , where he also wrestled. He then attended Brockport State College, earned a bachelor's degree in 1983.
Survivors include his mother, Mary; his father, James; three brothers, Jim, John and Jerry; two sisters-in-law, Mary Martinsen and Christine Scaringe; an aunt and uncle, Fran and Lou Sasso; two nieces, Danielle and Gabriella Scaringe; a cousin, Cheryl Pensiero; and many other aunts, uncles and cousins.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 11 at St. Catherine's Church on Western Highway in Blauvelt. Burial followed at St. Anthony's Cemetery in Nanuet.
