Joseph M. Corey, 44, of Harvey's Lake left this earth too soon. Joe passed away suddenly on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Penn State Hershey Medical Center in Hershey.
He was born in Wilkes-Barre on November 7, 1968, the son of Dr. Peter John Corey and Ann Corey.
Joe was a graduate of Coughlin High School. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Penn State University and a Master of Science degree from the University of Scranton.
Joe spent his career at the United Methodist Homes. HE began his caree as an Activities Director and ended his career as a Vice President/Administrator at the Tunkhannock Campus. He loved his work, the residents, and all of the staff and family with whom he came in contact.
He was a member of Our Lady of Victory church in Harvey's Lake.
Joe loved being with his family. He was a avid hunter and fisherman and loved the outdoors. Joe was a kind, loving man. He was always giving and generous and will be remembered by those who knew him.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his Noni, Laura Matzoni, Mocanaqua; grandmother, Louise Coray, Wilkes-Barre; two uncles: Joseph Coray of Towanda, N.Y., and Anthony Coray of State College; and a brother-in-law, Nicholas Chovanes of Macungie.
Surviving are his wife of 20 years, Lesley Anne Corey of Harveys Lake; children: Jacob, Zachary, and Hailey; mother, Ann Corey, Dallas; sisters: Terri Gorman of Laflin, Jackie Chovanes of Macungie, and Stephanie Corey-Marks of Redwood City, Calif.; nieces and nephews: Joseph and Corey Gorman; Sophie, Olivia, and Annie Chovanes; Nico Corey-Civitello, and Owen and Grace Marks.
Joe was a great man who was taken from his life, famly, and friends too soon and will forever be missed.
A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, Aug. 16, at 10:30 a.m., at Our Lady of Victory, 16 Second Street Harvey's Lake, with Father Daniel Toomey, officiating.
Family and Friends are asked to go directly to the church for the mass. The interment will be at Saint Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Twp.
Friends and family may call on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Hugh B. Hughes & Son Inc., Funeral Home, 1044 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the United Methodist Homes Resident Support Fund, 50 W. Tioga Street, Tunkhannock PA 18657.

My condolences to his family. I am very sad to hear this news. He always came into my work in the morning and was always such a nice, kind man. He will be missed.

We are so deeply saddened by the loss of this very special person. He was there for us when our Mom joined the UMH family and continued his caring ways throughout her stay. We are thankful to have known him.

I meet Joe when my mother entered Methodist Manor in Tunkhannock several years ago. Joe was so helpful getting her registered their..I was so saddened and shocked to read of his passing in the morning paper.Joe was a great person,he will be sadly missed.My prayers are with his family at this time.
