Catherine M. (Kate) Kukucka, of Tunkhannock, died Saturday, June 28, in Community Medical Center in Scranton.
She was born on March 28, 1920, in Lake Winola, daughter of the late John and Anna Thomas Mikulski.
Prior to her retirement she was employed as a chef for Gov. William Scranton and as head chef at Keystone Junior College. Kate was the owner of the White House Inn in Tunkhannock until the 1972 flood.
She was a member of the Church of the Nativity BVM, in Tunkhannock. She started the Potato Pancake stand for the Triton Hose Company carnival providing her family recipe.
She was preceded in death by her husband John Kukucka Sr.; son-in-law Clifford Kingston; great granddaughter Meggie Lee Rought; brothers: Charles, George R., and infant John Mikulski; sisters: Anna Kamoski, Margaret Kuback, Mildred Whitlonis, Connie Skrynski and infant Mary Mikulski.
Surviving is a son John (Ruth) Kukucka of Tunkhannock; daughters: Jean (Ron) Steele of Tunkhannock; Darlene (Danny) Miller of Forkston Township; three grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 2, at 9 a.m. from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home Inc., 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, with mass of Christian Burial at the Church of the Nativity BVM in Tunkhannock. Interment will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Tunkhannock. Calling hours were Tuesday night.
